Stressful city life alongside social and economic uncertainty led to an increased interest in rural living in recent years. Amidst the allure of wide-open spaces and green pastures, many also turned their interest to alternative and sustainable housing options. Barndominiums are at the forefront of this new trend. Closely respecting the design and layout of repurposed barns, they combine rustic charm with comfort and practicality. Most barndominiums today are made out of kits, a solution that reduces construction costs while also enabling families to choose a barndo size and internal layout fitted to their needs. For instance, the Rolling Hill Barndominium by HL Custom Homes is a sought-after choice for growing families and smaller lots. This modern marvel offers spacious communal areas and a built-in garage to maintain a compact footprint. It suits rural landscapes, but its timeless charm also makes it perfect for the suburbs. Let’s take a closer look at this barndominium that is sure to inspire you with its thoughtful design elements. Exterior HL Custom Homes imagined a classic barndominium reminiscent of traditional farmhouses. Upon approaching the property, the focal point is drawn by the stunning vaulted ceiling porch offering a grand entrance. Sought-after details, such as timber beams framing the porch, are also sure to leave a lasting impression and elevate the curb appeal. Stone wainscoting complements the chocolate-brown metal walls, which offer a slight contrast to the dark brown metal roof. The front porch stretches all the way to the driveway leading to a spacious single-bay garage. To the rear, a covered patio mirrors the front porch and provides a perfect spot for entertaining or enjoying stunning views of the landscape. Both covered outdoor spaces are ideal for gatherings and quiet moments of relaxation, while seamlessly expanding your indoor living spaces, and integrating them in the surroundings. Interior Step inside the Rolling Hill barndominium and prepare to be captivated by its stunning interior. A warm color palette blends the soft beige of the walls with the darker accents of the hardwood flooring and decorative timber elements. Modern amenities enhance the rustic ambiance, blending retro looks with contemporary comfort. Living Area As you step inside the foyer, the main living area greets you with an open-concept layout linking the living room to the kitchen and dining room. HL Custom Homes imagined the main sitting area right off the foyer. The ample space benefits from a tall ceiling and sufficient square footage for a sectional sofa and additional accent chairs. Lacking in the living room is a traditional fireplace, but a charming fitted wall makes it so that you won’t miss it. Particularly enticing is the furniture’s design, providing plenty of storage as well as ample space for a big-screen TV. A ceiling fan completes the living room’s design, adding a touch of farmhouse charm while enhancing airflow throughout the home. The stained glass door and a large window flood the room with natural light while also acting as decorative elements. Kitchen and Dining Opposite the living room, the kitchen and dining sprawl across half of the open-plan. The kitchen doesn’t take up much of the room, but it offers all comfort and amenities. An ample peninsula doubles as a breakfast bar, adding casual seating and promoting conviviality. To promote conviviality it is also the stove, smartly built in the peninsula. A pantry expands kitchen storage to another room, while the dining area occupies a nook in the open plan. Decorative elements, such as rustic pendant lights, enhance the visual interest. A glass double door opens up the dining room to the outdoors, merging the interior with the patio in the warmer months. Fitted shelving enhances the pantry’s versatility, but this room also doubles as a utility room. Alternatively, you can find sufficient space for the washer and dryer in the garage and include an additional sink and counter space in the pantry. Bedrooms and Bathrooms The Rolling Hill barndominium spans one floor, but the layout separates the sleeping areas for enhanced privacy. On one side of the living room, the master suite welcomes you into a world designed for relaxation. The ample room can accommodate a king-size bed and an additional seating area, while ample windows allow plenty of natural light into the room. The interior style fully matches the living room, with the same hardwood floors and a rustic ceiling fan. Traditional barn doors open the bedroom to the master bathroom, which comes complete with a double vanity and an expansive stand-in shower. To complete the bedroom’s design is a generously sized walk-in closet. We love the shelves and drawers inside the closet that reflect the same beauty as the living room furniture, the vanity, and the kitchen cabinets. A second bedroom and a family bathroom complete the barndo’s design. The communal bathroom has a single vanity, but it draws you in with a shower over a soaking tub. The second bedroom also boasts an ample closet and plenty of space for a bed and other essentials. Garage Completing the barndo is a generous one-car garage with plenty of space for a workshop. This functional space is easy to transform into a DIY haven, with plenty of room for tool storage, tinkering, woodworking, or anything else you might need. The garage benefits from a vaulted ceiling and plenty of natural light. Final Thoughts In designing the Rolling Hill Barndominium, HL Custom Homes created the perfect abode for young families and empty-nesters who don’t need a lot of space. Despite its smaller size, this gorgeous home includes all modern amenities, blending them seamlessly with rustic elements for a charming yet comfortable interior. Adding further curb appeal and value are the covered outdoor spaces which swiftly expand your living areas.
